National Volunteer Week RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month, a time to celebrate those who dedicate their time to be stewards and leaders in our communities through volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, President Obama has proclaimed April 6-12, 2014 as National Volunteer Week; and

WHEREAS, this year marks the 40th Anniversary of the Points of Light Foundation National Volunteer Week; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Illinois Sister Cities Association is a group of volunteers dedicated to supporting the Sister Cities Mission in the state of Illinois to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, & cooperation – one individual, one community at a time; and


WHEREAS, 37 Illinois cities have established Sister City partnerships; and


WHEREAS, Illinois cities have 100 Sister City partnerships around the world; and


WHEREAS, volunteers are the core of Illinois Sister City partnerships; and


WHEREAS, a Sister City partnership can inspire, equip and mobilize people to take action that changes the world; and

WHEREAS, during this week all over the state of Illinois, service projects will be performed and volunteers recognized for their commitment to service; and

WHEREAS, the giving of oneself in service to another empowers the giver and the recipient; and


WHEREAS, experience teaches us that government by itself cannot solve all of our world’s social

problems; and


WHEREAS, our state and national volunteer force is a great treasure; and


WHEREAS, volunteers are vital to our future as a caring and productive state and nation; and


NOW, THEREFORE, WE, The Board of Directors of the Illinois Sister Cities Association do hereby recognize the volunteers who serve and come together to make a difference in the Sister Cities partnerships throughout the state of Illinois.
