October 29, 2013 | Leave a comment Congratulations Columbia, Illinois for being selected Illinois Sister City of the year. The City of Columbia has distinguished itself in their Sister Cities relationship with Gedern, Germany. Columbia and Gedern celebrated their 20th year of Sister Cities relationship in May 2013. They celebrated with an exchange of 45 delegates from Gedern. Columbia and Gedern have a rich history of youth/student exchanges as well. In April of 2013 24 students from Gedern came to Columbia for 3 weeks. Over their 20 year relationship they have had 11 youth exchanges. Mayor Kevin Hutchinson of Columbia accepted the Award for Columbia Sister Cities at the Illinois Municipal League Annual Conference, October 18, 2013 at the Chicago Hilton and Towers. Congratulations Columbia and Gedern for a job well done. As the Holiday Season approaches I hope 2013 has been a good year for your Sister Cities organization. In the coming year we are looking forward to great things. The ISCA Annual Conference will be hosted by Urbana, Illinois. Details to follow. The ISCA is beginning fund raising to assist host cities of the Annual Conference and build our organization. Our first fund raising was providing 2 wine baskets to the Mount Prospect Sister Cities Community Banquet. We raffled the baskets for $5. per ticket or 3 for $10.00. The raffle earned $300.00 and was shared 50/50 between MPSC and ISCA. The ISCA provided the baskets. The ISCA is happy to provide a basket to raffle for any of your events and to split the proceeds 50/50. Call me if you would like a basket to raffle. Baskets can be filled with whatever theme your group prefers. Our 2014 Annual conference is in Urbana and our 2015 Annual Conference is in Naperville. We are looking for a Host city for 2016. If your Sister City organization would like to Host please contact me or Adrienne Tongate for further information. We are always happy to publish any information about exchanges, events or any other Sister Cities news on our website: www.illinoissistercitiesassociation.org or on Facebook: Illinois Sister Cities Association. Please forward information to me at the website. Think about filling out an application for becoming a Board Member for ISCA. Elections are at the Annual Conference in the spring. We love our members. Don’t forget to pay your annual dues. We also have three new membership categories. Individual- $15. Family- $25. And Corporate- $100. Anyone interested in Sister Cities Mission can join, you do not have to be part of a town program. Check out membership applications on the website: www.illinoissistercitiesassociation.org.
