Twelve high school students and their teacher, Anita Dommel, arrived in West Chicago on March 17, 2013 and stayed with American host families for two and a half weeks. This exchange between students from West Chicago Community High School and Simon Marius Gymnasium has been in existence for over 30 years. Nora Wessels, German teacher at the high school and Frau Dommel coordinated this year’s exchange. On March 21st the Sister Cities group invited the German and American students, teachers and host families to all share their experiences. The German students gave interesting presentations on their country and hometown. The rest of the evening was spent socializing and enjoying refreshments. The West Chicago Sister Cities is an organization that fosters peace through education, culture and people to people exchanges. Our sister city of Taufkirchen (Vils) is also located in Bavaria, Germany. If you would like more information go to the website at www.westchicagosistercities.com.
