Mandela Day is celebrated internationally each year July 18th, 2012
Chicago Sister Cities International celebrates Mandela Day along with our global community. Mandela Day is celebrated internationally each year on July 18 in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday and his towering achievements in South Africa and on the world stage. It is a reminder to the world to advocate for social justice by making the cultural connections that celebrate our diversity, while embracing our similar goal for a peaceful world. CSCI is proud of our sister city relationship with Durban, South Africa and shares with all our sister cities in honoring Nelson Mandela.
For over 50 years, CSCI has been at the forefront of cultural, educational, social and business exchanges between Chicago and its 28 sister cities. It is committed to promoting Chicago as a global city, developing international partnerships and networks, and sharing best practices on a city-to-city basis with its sister cities for the benefit of the City of Chicago, its residents and businesses.
